The second concert features YCAT guitarist Samrat Majumder and includes a world premiere commissioned by YCAT from Arthur Keegan, our 2026-27 Composer Fellow - supported in memory of Hans Keller by the Cosman Keller Art and Music Trust.

Three YCAT Artists have been announced as recipients of a prestigious 2024 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship!
The Borletti-Buitoni Trust helps outstanding young musicians to develop and sustain international careers with awards that fund tailor-made projects. Awards are announced every other year in March to mark the birthday of Franco Buitoni (1934-2016), co-founder of BBT with his wife Ilaria Borletti Buitoni.
.
This year's recipients include:
Jonathan Leibovitz - clarinet (joint artist with Concert Artists Guild)
Hana Chang - violin (joint artist with Concert Artists Guild)
Will Duerden - double bass
.
All winners are given a budget and they are invited to suggest how they want to spend the money. There are no set criteria: winners are encouraged to be creative and to use their awards in a way that will help to establish and build their careers. In collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Society, and supported by the Cosman Keller Art and Music Trust, YCAT has selected two exceptionally talented British composers to participate in this exciting programme.

The Composer Fellow, selected annually, will receive a commission to write two short chamber works for specific YCAT artists. Selected composers will have the opportunity to work closely with each artist throughout the composition process, fostering meaningful relationships that could extend beyond the duration of the Fellowship. The works will be premiered across several regional UK performances, culminating in a YCAT Wigmore Hall lunchtime recital, professionally recorded for promotional purposes.

After a successful pilot scheme back in March 2023, we are now offering one-to-one appointments with fundraising professionals, for musicians* who need support with funding applications and grant writing. Although funding applications for postgraduate or project funding are a fact of life for many musicians, those at the start of their careers often feel unprepared and apprehensive about completing them.

We continue to work in partnership with residencies around the UK: St George's Bristol, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Leeds Conservatoire and Theatre Clwyd, North Wales.

In Samuele's words:
‘This recording is one that I felt compelled to make. Every time I play Bach’s Goldberg Variations I realise that something changes inside me, and as a consequence in my interpretation as well. The piece is a kind of mirror into which I can look and see what is inside me. Finally, after performing it many times in concert over several years, I felt ready to fix a version in a recording.’

This partnership is made possible by the generous support of Alastair and Elizabeth Storey.

Ariel commented: ‘In the Moments Musicaux and the D major sonata, we see two facets of Schubert: the intimate and the panoramic. I see the Moments Musicaux as a series of snapshots of outdoor life … The D major sonata presents a panorama rather than snapshots … While many obvious differences exist between these two great works, the Moments Musicaux and the D major sonata do share one thing in common: they both end on a question mark. Rather than bring the music to a conclusive end, Schubert’s artistic courage allows him to leave the audience with the burden of finding a conclusion.’
